Obituary

John Wesley Mealer, born on September 7, 1953, in Jackson, Tennessee, was the beloved son of the late Wesley Martin and Bernice M. Inman Mealer. A proud graduate of McNairy Central High School and Vo-Tech in Crump, Tennessee

John had a diverse set of passions; he found joy in woodworking, sewing, and nurturing plants, along with a love for experimenting with new ingredients in his cooking. Known for his warm and approachable nature, he cherished engaging with family and friends.

John Wesley Mealer passed away on January 22, 2026, in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 72 years, 4 months, and 15 days. He is survived by his two sisters, Artie M. Smith and her companion Hubert Byrd of Selmer, and Nellie J. Brown of Jackson; as well as his two brothers, Dannie W. Mealer and William M. Mealer and wife Donna, all of Selmer;  nephew, Carl Wayne Mealer, provided care and companionship to his uncle.

Though John did not have children of his own, he held his nieces and nephews close to his heart, including Brian Whitley, Justin Whitley, Carl Mealer, Gracie Mealer, Grace Long Pope, Jo Carol Long, Jonathon Adkins, Brandy Adkins, Danielle Harbin, Mary Wiley, Anthony Mealer, Jeremy Bugg, Miracle McKey, Timothy Mealer, Wesley Mealer, and Haley Mealer, along with several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John Wesley was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce M. Long, and his grandparents, John Lester and Gracie Artie Inman.

John Wesley Mealer's spirit will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him, and his legacy will continue through the lives he touched.
