John Edgar Melson Sr. of Collinwood, TN was born September 25, 1921 in Lutts, TN, the son of the late Jay and Pearl Burns Melson. He was united in marriage to Irene Whitten on September 21, 1944.
Mr. Melson was a retired truck driver and a member of the Houston Baptist Church, Waynesboro, Tennessee. He was saved at his home on Rayburn Creek and baptized in 1953. Mr. Melson was discharged from the United States Army during WWII as a corporal. Mr. Melson departed this life on January 29, 2013 in Collinwood, Tennessee at the age of 91 Years, 4 Months, 4 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Whitten Melson of Collinwood, TN; two sons, John Edgar Melson Jr. and wife, Charlene of Anchorage, AK, Kenneth Melson and wife, Lorene of Waynesboro, TN; five daughters, Linda Griggs and husband, Barney of Waynesboro, TN, Carylon Banks and husband, John E. of Cypress Inn, TN, Brenda Thompson and husband, Dwight of Waynesboro, TN, Judy Inman and husband, Donnie of Collinwood, TN, Norma Brewer of Collinwood, TN; grandchildren, Michelle, Bruce, Marnie, Beverly, Shannon, Brandon, Byron, Brandi, Kim, Jason, Eric, Jamie, Bridget, John, Emily, and Dwight; great-grandchildren, Torin, Camden, Trey, Owen, Eli, Conner, Brittany, Madison, Brenden, Bently, Trevan, Kelli, Katelyn, Colby, Arley, Morgan, Weston, Brady, Dylan, Chase, Jack, Hunter, Skyler, Clay, Kaleb, Gage, Blair, and was expecting one in June; five nephews; seven nieces.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melson was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Freddy Inman, Troy Brewer; two brothers, Jessie J. Melson, Joda Melson; two sisters, Jewel Stricklin, Mable Melson.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors, Waynesboro, Tennessee, with John E. Banks and Johnny B. Burns officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Byron Griggs, Jason Banks, Eric Banks, John Inman, Brent Gobbell, and Jamie Jackson. Great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
