John Rex Moore, 63, of Bay City passed away Sunday April 24th, 2016 in Houston TX. Rex was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, near Savannah, to parents John Hundley and Mattie Jo Jerrolds Moore. He served as a Tennessee State Trooper for 4 ½ years and attended and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. He worked in the Human Resources Department at the South Texas Project for more than 30 years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City. At First Baptist he was a part of the Good News Club, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Gideon Ministry, and served with the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Response Team. He also served as a Chaplin and a mentor for the Bay City Independent School District.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Ray Moore. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Moore of Bay City, a son and his wife, Will and Angie Moore of Austin, a daughter and son in law, Sarah and Clayton Ryman of Wadsworth, and two sisters, Wanda Treece and Bonnie Boyd of Savannah, TN, and a sister in law, Shirley Moore of Sulphur, LA. He also had one grandson, Tanner Ryman.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 27 from 6 PM until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Neill Cemetery in Savannah, TN. Gary Parkey, Stan Eldridge, Paul Hannah, Terry Crouch, Jackson Kelly, and Clayton Davis will serve as pallbearers. Brock Steed and Billy Mann will be honorary pallbearers.
