John Edward Nelson, Sr. age 72 of Pinson, passed away Monday morning, July 5, 2021 at his home.
He was born in Jackson, TN January 11, 1949 son of the late AJ and Alene Marie Taylor Nelson. He grew up in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School. He then attended Jackson State Community College earning an AA degree.
He worked for JEA for 35 years as an electrical engineer and retired in 2007 as the Electric Engineering Project Coordinator. He had served in the US Army and in the Tennessee National Guard where he repaired and flew helicopters.
He was a huge history buff and loved to visit Shiloh Battlefield.
He is survived by four sons, John Edward Nelson, Jr. (Maria) of Orlando, Florida, Jason Nelson (Cindy) of Orange City, Florida, Jeff Nelson (Kathy) of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Spencer Nelson (Tiffany) of Jackson, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren Breana Nelson, Luis and Christine Otero, Julian and Cameron Nelson, Sarea Toothaker, Taylor Franklin, Alexis Nelson, Anthony, Christopher and Andrew Bollhofer, Raeleigh Nelson; a great grandson Kal-el Reyes and a great granddaughter is on the way; a sister Jane Stanfill (Phillip) of Jackson and a sister-in-law Glenda Nelson of Jackson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Mike Nelson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 9, 2021 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson - Crook Avenue Chapel with burial in the Young Cemetery in Gadsden, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM service time.
