JOHN WILLIE TIDWELL, SR.
was born January 16, 1931 in McNairy County, Tennessee, son of the late Jess Carl and Letha Ann Ezekiel Tidwell.
He married the former Virgie Jeweldine McLaughlin on August 15, 1952 and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2008.
Mr. Tidwell worked as a Machinist Foreman for TVA thirty years before retiring.
He had worked at the TVA Plants in: Colbert County, Alabama; New Johnsonville, Tennessee; Paradise, Kentucky; Kingston, TN; Gallatin, TN; Pickwick Dam, TN; Wheeler Dam, Wilson Dam, Ocoee #1 Dam, Brown's Ferry Nuclear Power Plant, Guntersville, AL, Watts Bar Dam, Watts Bar Steam Plant, Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant, John Sevier, Kentucky Dam, Watauga-Hydro, and the Monarch Tile company in Florence, AL , formerly "Stylon".
He was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ; a member of TVA IAM Machinist Union.
Mr. Tidwell loved to Fish and Farm, also raising cattle. He enjoyed squirrel hunting,coon hunting, and was an avid outdoors man. He was a Korean War Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was devoted husband and father, well loved and an inspiration to his church.
Mr. Tidwell departed from this life January 27th at the Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama, at the age of 79 years and 11 days.
Mr. Tidwell leaves 2 daughters - Judy D. Franks and Janet Rose Fletcher both of Savannah, Tennessee.
3 sons - John Tidwell, Jr. of Savannah, Tennessee, Justin Dale Tidwell of Henderson, Tennessee and Jeffery Carl Tidwell of Philadelphia, Tennessee.
11 grandchildren - Christy Talley, Adam Franks, Robin Franks, Shannon Tidwell, Justin Tidwell, Jr., Holly Tidwell, Paige Tidwell, Jessi Fletcher, Savannah Tidwell, Rachael Tidwell, and Elijah Taylor.
13 Great-grandchildren - Christopher Davidson, Hannah Davidson, Logan Talley, Alex Franks, Amberly Franks, Brylinn Franks, Baily Tidwell, Breanna Tidwell, Jeremiah Tidwell, Allie Riley, Lilly Tidwell, Violet Tidwell, and William Tidwell.
1 sister - Cora Crowe of Finger, Tennessee.
Mr. Tidwell was also preceded in death by a sister Della Jane Plunk and a brother Jesse Carl Tidwell, Jr.
