John I. Vincent, Jr.

July 27, 1927 — December 25, 2025

Bolivar, Tennessee

John I. Vincent, Jr. was born on July 27, 1927, in Bolivar, Tennessee, where he spent his entire life. He passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, also in his beloved hometown. A dedicated member of the community, John was well known for his dedication to family, his career, and his unwavering commitment to service.

John's professional journey began with the ownership and operation of New Hope Grocery, a venture he took over from his father, John I. Vincent, Sr. He furthered his skills by attending Whiteville Vo-Tech, where he earned his HVAC licensing and subsequently operated an HVAC repair business. His commitment to education extended to the younger generations, as he also served as a substitute teacher at Whiteville Vo-Tech, sharing his knowledge and expertise with students.

A proud veteran, John served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946 and continued his service in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. Despite his aspirations to join the Merchant Marines, he was unable to meet the required weight, noting with humor that he weighed only 121 lbs at the time.

Outside of his professional endeavors, John had a passion for gardening and fishing, pursuits that brought him joy and relaxation. However, his greatest love was reserved for his family. He cherished his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, building a legacy of love that will be remembered by those he leaves behind.

John was a devoted member of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as the cemetery caretaker for an impressive 45 years. His commitment to his faith and community exemplified the values he held dear throughout his life.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Vicki Craft and Zeke of Bolivar, Pamela Rigby of Jackson, and Patricia Kessler and Eddie of Bolivar. His siblings, Butch Vincent and Judy of Collierville, Emily Hinson of Durham, NC, and Frieda Waller of Bolivar, along with his grandchildren Susan Cossar and Andy, Johnny Craft and Amber, Kailey Thigpen and Bowen, Will Rigby and Caroline, Konnor Kessler and Kara, Kooper Kessler and Emily, and his great-grandchildren Wyatt, River, Finn, Mae, Ben, Scottie, Sabra Lynn, Ursie, and Griffin, who is on the way, will all carry his memory forward.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Sabra Vincent, his parents, Lois Elizabeth Long Vincent and John I. Vincent, Sr., and his stepmother Cornelia Stewart Harris Vincent, his brothers, Joseph, Kenneth, Cecil, Richard, Curtis, Wilbert and O'Neal, as well as his son-in-law Chris Rigby.

The legacy of John I. Vincent, Jr. will endure through the many lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.  Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
