Johnny McAfee

May 7, 1959 — April 8, 2023

Michie

Johnny McAfee was born on May 7, 1959 in Corinth, Mississippi, the son of the late John Wesley and Bobbie Lee Harston McAfee.

On September 16, 1980, he was united in marriage to Tina Sagely, who survives.

Johnny was a member of Childers Hill Pentecostal Church in Counce, Tennessee. He worked at Hagy's Catfish Hotel for 44 years. He basically grew up at the restaurant. The majority of his family enjoyed working there as well. His mother was a waitress in the old "Catfish Hotel". Johnny had to give up his cooking career when his lung cancer was found in 2022. He has already been greatly missed - due to his ability to keep everybody in the kitchen straight, his meals prepared just for the staff, and his silly acts.

Johnny was a great husband. He married the one girl, at the age of 16, who he would love forever - and she will love him forever as well. You could kind of say that they grew up together. They formed a beautiful family together. They had their son Chris in 1982 and then their daughter Crystal in 1984. They liked to take their family vacations in the Smokies every year - usually renting a cabin for the week. From those two kids, there were six grandkids created. He definitely loved his grandkids! They were his world! They brought so much happiness to his life. He loved when they would come over on that Monday every week to spend the night and play games, or anything else that his grandkids wanted to do.

Johnny McAfee departed this life on April 8, 2023 in Michie, Tennessee at the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 1 day.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Tina McAfee of Michie, Tennessee; son, Christopher Lane McAfee of Counce, Tennessee; daughter, Crystal Lynn McAfee Edwards of Counce, Tennessee; grandchildren, Madison, Alli, Baylee, Sophie, Clint, and Waylon; brother, Joey McAfee of Michie, Tennessee; sister, Phyllis McAfee Ballard of Shiloh, Tennessee; and half sisters, Connie Salmon Terry of Michie, Tennessee and Angie Davis Haynes of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his sister, Pam McAfee Morgan, brother, Jackie McAfee and half brothers, Donny Joe (D.J.) Salmon, Ronnie Salmon, and Ernest McAfee.
