Joseph Daniel Norman was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina, on November 14, 1931, the son of the late Odus James and Lucy Sain Norman.
On October 26, 1969 he was united in marriage to Gilda Dale Alexander, who survives.
Mr. Norman retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass in Jackson, Tennessee, where he had worked in management. He was a member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church, a member of the Masons, and also served on the Milledgeville Board of Aldermen for 12 years.
Mr. Norman was an avid hunter who enjoyed traveling for different game. He hunted pheasants in Iowa, wild boar in Texas, and elk and deer in Colorado. He also loved turtle hunting, and trout fishing. He enjoyed raising a vegetable garden, building bird houses for purple martins, and watching NASCAR. He was very good at fund raising for his community and organizing benefits for people in need.
He departed this life on December 16, 2016 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 2 days. In addition to his wife of 47 years, he is survived by: one son, Ronnie Norman of Nebo, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Joe Clarke, and Corrianne Wilson; 5 great grandchildren;
Four sisters, Frances Pittman and Anita Broderick, both of Morganton, North Carolina, Janice Roper of Asheville, North Carolina, and Pixie Owens of Greensboro, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one daughter, Debbi Wilson; three brothers, Gene, Sherril, and Stan Norman; and two sisters, Sybyl Poole, and Melba Ruth Norman.
