Bartlett: Joseph Porter ‘Joe’ Sims, Sr. age 77 died Thursday morning at his home in Bartlett.
Mr. Sims was born in Helena, AR and grew up in Lambert, MS the son of the late Walter Scott Sims, Sr. and Mary Porter Sims. He graduated from Tech High School in Memphis and served two years in the U. S. Marines. He married Judy Ward in 1961 and they made their home in Memphis and Bartlett. He owned and operated Josi Pool Services, Inc. and was a distributor for Protect A Child Pool Fence Company. He also worked in pre-cast concrete and was involved in the construction of several major projects in Memphis.
He is survived by his wife Judy Ward Sims of Bartlett, daughter Cindy Levinson and husband Peter of Charlotte, NC, a brother Harry Sims of Southaven, MS four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his mother-in-law Florence Melton Ward of Finger.
He was preceded in death by a son Joe Sims, Jr. in 1997 and a brother Walter Sims.
Graveside services will be 12 noon Saturday at Finger Cemetery with Rev. Jolly Sebastian officiating.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 10:00 AM Saturday until 11:30 AM.
