Joyce Mangum Thomas departed this life on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at the age of 83 years, 9 months, 24 days. She was born in Savannah, Tennessee on December 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Clate and Nell White Mangum. On December 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Jack Barker Thomas, who preceded her in death on December 22, 1983.
Joyce was a banker at First National Bank for approximately 20 years. She had also worked for Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Mill. She enjoyed reading, game shows, and was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ.
She is survived by a daughter, Jill Thomas Carpenter and husband, Mike of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Leighton Binger and husband, Doug of Atlanta, Georgia, Lee Leighton and wife, Samantha of Corvallis, Oregon, Kathleen Carpenter Guntor and husband, Brandon of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael Carpenter and wife, Kaylon of Huntsville, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Hailey Binger, Liam Binger, Price Guntor, Lane Guntor, and Layla Carpenter; and son-in-law, Leon Leighton of Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jebby Thomas Leighton and sister, Cloedith Mangum Rainwater.
