J.R. Kirk, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, departed this life on July 8, 2025, in Corinth, Mississippi. Born on March 18, 1948, in Overton, Texas.

A student at Ramer High School, J.R. showcased his talents on the basketball court while maintaining commendable academic achievements. His deep sense of duty and patriotism led him to make a pivotal decision—he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably during the Vietnam War. Those who knew him recognized the pride he took in his service, a testament to his unwavering love for his country.

J.R.'s journey through life was as vibrant as it was industrious. After his time in the Marines, he transitioned into the workforce as a welder on oil rigs, and later with ITT and Tool & Dye in Henderson. His thirst for knowledge propelled him back to academia, leading him to Northeast in Booneville, where he graduated with honors in 1992, achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA—a true reflection of his perfectionist spirit. He later joined the Corps of Engineers in Nashville, where his expertise in CAD support was highly valued.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, J.R. was revered for his stories and infectious laughter.

Family was the cornerstone of J.R.'s life. He harbored a profound love for his loved ones, spending countless moments with them. An avid reader, he found joy in the rugged tales of Louis L’Amour along with many other favorites and enjoyed the music of the of 60s and country music. He tended to his animals—dogs, rabbits, and chickens—and planted a huge garden, often sharing the fruits of his labor through family canning sessions.

J.R. leaves behind his cherished wife, Betty Kirk; daughter, Wendy Congiardo (Michael); son, Jay Kirk (Nikki); grandson, Cole Kirk and fiancée, Mekyland; granddaughter, Maddie Kirk; sister, Jana Bickel (Jeff); and nephew, Matthew Bickel; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Clyde Kirk and Billie Lehew Kirk.

J.R. Kirk will be deeply missed—a brilliant mind with a competitive spirit, whose legacy of love continues to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
