Judy Ann Gallaher McWilliams was born July 8, 1939, in Waynesboro TN, the first child of Naomi Byrd Gallaher and Lonnie Edwin Gallaher. Her brother Lonnie Biffle Gallaher was a wonderful brother and uncle who left us too soon. She graduated from St Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville with an RN. Marrying her high school sweetheart, Hogan Turman McWilliams, she had three children and 49 years with Hogan till his passing in 2008.
Judy had a wonderful, eventful life, moving with Hogan due to corporate relocations, to Florida, Connecticut, and Texas. Along the way she enjoyed decorating her numerous homes, the churches where she led many Sunday School classes, Bible studies and hosted lots of fun socials with their church family. She was ordained a deacon in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She and Hogan were involved in leadership in the churches they attended, assisted in building new additions, ministered to people and led churches through growth.
Later in life, she returned to college at Sam Houston University to acquire her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology. She had always been a sounding board for her family and friends, this made it official. She set up an office in Houston as a licensed professional counselor and was able to help people resolve issues in their lives.
After Hogan retired from Texaco, they moved back to their hometown of Waynesboro to restore the old McWilliams home on McWilliams Street. It was a life-long dream for them to redo the historic home, along with caring for their elderly parents, Ethel McWilliams, Naomi Gallaher, and Lonnie Gallaher.
After Hogan’s passing at 68, Judy moved to Frederick, MD so she could be near her youngest son, Shannon and his wife Jill, who was really her fourth “child”. It was there that she was able to truly be a part of her grandchildren’s lives.
She passed peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 84 years, 7 months - her 85th birthday would have been on July 8, but we will celebrate in her honor!
Those surviving her are daughter, Amy McWilliams (Caren Lewis) of Madison, WI; son, Hogan McWilliams Jr of Aspen, CO; son, Shannon McWilliams (Jill) of Frederick, MD; and grandchildren Hanna McWilliams Gough (Evan) and Jarrod McWilliams.
