Kathaleen Heidelberg

Charmlin Kathaleen Heidelberg, age 84, of McNairy County, Tennessee, passed away on November 1, 2026.

Born on June 25, 1942, in Jackson, Tennessee, Kathaleen was the daughter of the late James Elmer Heidelberg and Norma C. Collins Vandiver. A true free spirit, her sister Debbie lovingly described her as a "hippy wild child." Kathaleen's adventurous heart was clear early on when she famously hopped on the back of her brother’s motorcycle with nothing more than the clothes she was wearing and headed for Naples, Florida. Throughout her life, her wanderlust took her across the country, living in Washington, Minnesota, and Montana before eventually returning home to Tennessee.

Professionally, Kathaleen held various positions over the years. She began her career performing clerical work for the Jackson Utility Department. Later in life, she found fulfillment working as a house cleaner and providing compassionate care for the elderly before taking her well-deserved retirement. About ten years ago, her sister Debbie moved in to help care for her, sharing a home and many cherished memories together.

Kathaleen was a home gourmet who loved to cook, and she possessed a deep, enduring passion for nature and animals. She was fiercely protective of the environment—frequently dismayed by the cutting down of trees—and adored her pets, especially her beloved Scottish Terrier, Benjamin, and her two cats, Oosel and Lefty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Elmer Heidelberg and Norma C. Collins Vandiver, as well as her brother, Gary Heidelberg, and his wife, Shirley.

Kathaleen is survived by her sister, Liz Bryant, and her husband, Paul, of Mercer, TN; her sister, Carolyn Johnson, and her husband, Leroy, of Bemis, TN; her brother, James Heidelberg, and his wife, Peggy, of Russellville, AL; her brother, Wayne Heidelberg, and his wife, Edna, of Jonesboro, AR; her sister, Annette Jones, of Jacks Creek, TN; her special friend, Brian Mooney; her niece, J.J. Burns, and her husband, Chris, of West Virginia; and her dear friends, Shawny and her husband Vick, Matty, and Judy.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Legacy Hospice in Selmer, Tennessee, for their dedicated care and support.
