Mr. Keith Garner, age 89, passed away Sunday September 3, 2023, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Keith was born in New Albany, MS in 1934 to Sybil and Louis Garner. He was raised in Holly Springs , MS but left home at age 17 to join the Navy. He sailed the world, served his country, and fought during the Korean War.
Once he returned in 1955, he made his home in Memphis, TN, and two major events happened. He began his lifelong career of driving a truck and he met the love of his life, Kate.
Keith and Kate were married on august 1, 1956. Together, they had three children: Kathy, Kim, and Blair.
His career as a truck driver began at the age of 20 working for his Uncle Ben’s furniture company. He later drove for Redball and then Consolidated Freightways until retirement in 1999. He missed the work, however, and went back part time with Hicks Convention until 2018.
Keith enjoyed fishing, playing cards, working in his garden, going to the casinos and vacationing at the beach. Nothing compared to his enjoyment of being a member of the Teamsters Union.
He was a humble servant of both country and family.
Keith is survived by his children: Kathy Sapp (Roger); Kimberly Weir (David); and Blair Garner. His grandchildren: Natalie Clements (Joe)( Casey Gleysteen (John); Jessica Lafrain; Michael Coleman; Stacy Garner; and Trey Garner. His great grandchildren: Andrew Clements (Loren); Nathan Clements; Peyton Garner; Jolie Clements; Presley Lipford; Bryce Lafrain; Emmett Lafrain; John Gleysteen; Oliver Garner; Coleman Gleysteen. And great great grandchild; Samuel Clements.
Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Kate. His parents, Sybil and Louis Garner. His sister, Jackie Walker. His brothers, Hugh Garner and Neil Garner.
