Kenneth W. Barstow

September 25, 1944 — August 18, 2024

Whiteville, TN

Kenneth W. Barstow, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away on August 18, 2024 in Bolivar, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, faith, and family love. Born on September 25, 1944, in Alhambra, California, Kenneth manifested a warm spirit that would light up every room he entered.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Pasadena Nazarene College, Kenneth dedicated himself to a career as a crop duster for an impressive 22 years, occasionally driving a truck as well. His work was not merely a job; it was a testament to his commitment to the land and the community that nurtured him. His hands were often as dusty as his heart was clean, ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Kenneth served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam era from 1966 to 1968. His service to his country reflected his deep sense of duty and love for freedom, qualities that marked his character throughout his life.

A deeply religious and faithful man, Kenneth carried a Bible in his pocket, a constant reminder of the values he held dear. He found solace and strength within the walls of the Whiteville First Baptist Church, where he shared his faith with many, providing a shining example of how to live a virtuous life filled with compassion and kindness. Kenneth had a gift for making others smile, and his love for laughter and jokes created a joyful atmosphere wherever he went.

Kenneth's spirit was enriched by the love of his family, including his devoted wife, Marcy Barstow of Whiteville, whom he married on June 13, 1969, his son, Gary Wayne Barstow of Wickenburg, Arizona, and his daughter, Starla Kay Barstow of Alturas, California. He cherished the bonds he fostered with his sisters, Elaine Boucher of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and Marilyn Jane Wiley of Silver City, New Mexico. Kenneth was also a proud grandfather to Amanda Nicole Barber and Genevieve Ellen Walton, whose achievements brought him immense pride. His heart swelled with joy in the presence of his great-grandchildren, Cooper, Sophia, and John Edwin Barber, who undoubtedly felt the warmth of his love and wit in every interaction.

Kenneth's parents, Harold D. Barstow and Genevieve Casterline Barstow, as well as his sister Eleanor Norwood, predeceased him, but their memories lived on in the stories he recounted and the very values he demonstrated daily.

Living primarily in the South since 1978 and enjoying almost a decade in Whiteville, Kenneth embraced the rhythms of country life, filling his days with meaningful moments and cherished connections. As we remember Kenneth Barstow, we honor a life well-lived, a man of faith, laughter, and unwavering love. He will be sorely missed, but his spirit will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in his name be sent to Whiteville First Baptist Church.
