Kristie Linette Cherry-Bynum (Miss America) was born March 8, 1976 in Selmer, Tennessee to loving parents Mamie Bingham Cherry and the late Elder BJ (Robert Sr.) Cherry. God and his loving angels welcomed her home on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Hardin Medical Center in Savannah, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her father, Elder BJ Cherry; brothers, Robert Jr., Patrick, and Stephen Cherry; sister, Julie Cherry.
Kristie was truly saved and on fire for the work of the Lord. She worked hard at encouraging others that if you put God first in everything you do, He will take care of you. Even when she wasn’t able to get out after her accident, she kept a positive outlook on life which not only encouraged herself, but others who were around her. Kristie enjoyed reading the word of God and singing, playing, and listening to music.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, David L. Bynam of Georgia; her mother, Mamie L. Cherry; her brother, Paul; her sister, Sondra (Stephen Albright); her niece, also her pride and joy, Cristal R. Cherry Albright (Tee Tee’s Tuk Tuk); best friend, Catina Weatherspoon; adopted sisters, Francese (Darian) and Shavon; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.
Her presence will be greatly missed by all of her dear family and friends.
