Lamar Horner Doss

Lamar Horner Doss was born October 23, 1936 in Selmer, TN the son of the late Lamar Seldon and Dorotha Marie Horner Doss.

In 1958, Horner was united in marriage to Betty Jane Basinger, who preceded him in death on October 15, 2020.

Horner graduated from Selmer High School in 1957 and attended Union University in Jackson, TN.  He worked for many years as a steamfitter for Tennessee River Pulp & Paper Company in Counce, TN and served his country honorably in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Specialist-4 as a telecommunications installer and repair technician.  Playing golf with his friends and traveling, especially out West, were among his favorite activities.  Horner was fiercely loyal to his family and friends and demonstrated a tremendous love for his wife Betty, daughter Melinda, his parents, and siblings.  He was a faithful member of Selmer First Baptist Church and loved his church family dearly.   

Horner departed this life on January 12, 2024 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 2 Months, 20 Days.  He is survived by two brothers, Larry Doss and wife Deborah and Jimmie Doss and wife Patricia; four nephews: Bill Kinney and wife Jennifer, Rob Kinney and wife Laura, Jimmie Doss, II, and Reid Hill and wife Katy; three nieces: Brittany Cross and husband David, Alysun Bingham and husband John, and Carolyn Hill and husband David; and many extended family and friends.  

In addition to his wife and parents, Horner was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Leigh Doss; a sister, Mary Jane (Doss) Kinney; two brothers-in-law, Billy Basinger and James R. Dunaway; and a nephew, Matt Hill.
