Larry Carl Adkins, 84, of Middleton, Tennessee, beloved husband and father peacefully passed from this world to his eternal home on August 2, 2017.
Larry was born in Walton, Kentucky on August 16, 1932. He was the son of Henry and Flora Drees Adkins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edward (Bud). Larry and Bud were raised by his parents in a home full of love, especially his mother after his father died at a young age. His mother, one of the strongest women we have ever known, raised our father to be the finest husband and a compassionate and loving father.
Larry worked for Dover Corporation for 40 years, lived in Kentucky, Madison, IN, and Memphis, TN before spending his last 50 years in Middleton, TN. He enjoyed all sports, especially Kentucky and Memphis basketball, but those were secondary to his love of the Little League he coached and Middleton basketball games he attended. He was raised Methodist and attended Middleton First Baptist Church, where he loved listening to his wife Betty play the organ and piano for the past 50 years.
Larry loved his family and they were his pride and joy. Surviving Larry is his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Sue (Stewart); three children Becky, Larry (Sherry) and Eddie (Becky); four granddaughters, Lauren (Becky), Paige and Marina (Larry), and Emma (Eddie); and five great grandchildren, Jared, Sally and Rylee (Paige) and Chandler and Mattie (Marina). His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are blessed to have him as an example of fatherhood and he will be missed by all. The family sincerely appreciates all the love, support and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be made to First Baptist Church of Middleton, TN where the Larry and Betty Adkins Music Scholarship Fund will be established.
