LAVOUGHAN GRISSOM
Henderson, TN: James Lavoughan Grissom age 86 passed away April 27, 2012 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Grissom was born near the Lester School Community in Henderson County, the son of the late Jessie James and Bertie Ora Brasher Grissom. He is an Alumni of Lexington High School the class of 1944. After serving two years in the U. S. Army, the European Theater of Operations during WWII where he received a purple heart, he came back to Tennessee to began his farming career. He moved to Chester County in 1952 and has resided on a farm near Jacks Creek since that time. He married his wife Sylvia Armour in 1963. He was a member of the Unity Baptist Church since 1963, where he had served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia Jean Armour Grissom; a son Chris Grissom and wife Tosha Kilzer Grissom of Henderson; two grandchildren Kayla Lott and husband Hunter and Bryce Grissom; a sister Adrienne Lindsey and husband Charles Lee of Jackson and their four children; a sister-in-law Lounelle Grissom and her two children and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a special breakfast ‘buddy’ Ralph Danneker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Carl Grissom.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Dr. James Huggins officiating and burial will follow with Military Honors in Unity Cemetery at Jacks Creek.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Sunday.
