Lawrence Vales

September 29, 1940 — December 6, 2011

He was born in Hardeman County, Tennesssee on September 29, 1940, the son of Mary Doshie Forsythe Vales and the late John Milton Vales. He was united in marriage for 30 years to Kathleen McKee Vales.



Mr. Vales was a butcher for Armour Meat Packing Co. from 1962-76, a security guard for Harmon Automotive from 1976-92, was a timber cutter from 1994-2002 and worked for Bolivar Energy from 1997-2009. He was a Baptist in belief and loved hunting and fishing (his family considered him a 'modern day Daniel Boone"), gardening, his children and grandchildren and he loved to engage in conversations.



Mr. Vales departed this life Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital at the age of 71.



In addition to his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by three daughters, Deborah Puckett and Rhonda Woods (Kyle) of Maury City, TN and Pam Schnedorf (Jay) of Keller, TX/Kapolei, HI; two sons, Kevin Vales (April) of Bolivar and Terrell Fleet of Memphis; a son in law, Jeffrey Branch of Maury City, TN; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Frances Cunningham of Memphis and Bonnie Dunston of Horton, AL and two brothers, Bill Vales of Saulsbury and Johnny Vales of Henderson. He also leaves behind a close niece and nephew, Trish Callahan and Nathan Jordan of Bolivar.



He was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Vales Branch, a sister, Nina Sue Vales and a brother, Ricky Vales.

Pallbearers are Mike Adams, Cliff Lockett, Dan Nuckolls, Jerald Froman, Ross Adams, and Terry McBride. Honorary pallbearers are John I. Vincent, Paul Hunt and Geroge Sargent.
