Leamon Tolbert Knight, born February 13, 1935 in ramer, TN. First born son to the late Inez and Artie Knight.
Leamon was baptized at the age of 13. Became a member of Wade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Ramer, TN. Leamon moved to Cleveland, OH in 1954 to work during the summer to make money for college. Met Wunella and Began to date; after dating for 2 years, they married. To this union, a daughter was born, Laverne, and was the love of his life. Leamon was a loving husband and father for 55 years.
Graduated from McNairy High School in 1953 in Selmer, TN. Attended College at Tennessee State and Lane College in Jackson, TN. Pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Lane College Undergraduate Chapter.
Leamon loved music; sang in a quartet in Ramer, TN. A member of Halle's Brother Chorale in downtown Cleveland from 1957 to 1960; Only 2 African-American males were members. The music was acappella. Leamon sang Tenor. He collected many musical albums, 78's and 45's vinyl records. He enjoyed sports, photography, reading, cooking, and gardening.
A mentor for young men; assisted them with finding employment; Secretary for Warrensville Hts. Little League Baseball Team, under the leadership of Mayor Grabow (1969). A reipient of a Distinguished Citizens Award with wife, July 16, 2003, from the City of Warrensville Hts., OH.
He had exellent work records at Halle's Bros, 1956; Seal test Diary Milk Processor, 1966; Seaway Foods, 1976; and retired from Riser Foods in 1995. A proud member of Teamster Union 507.
An active church member of Lee Road Baptist Church, Leamon served on the Church Board; the Communion Committee; House Committee; Counting Committee; Lee Road Men's Group; Sang in Men's Choir; Volunteer for the Tutorial Program and Vacation Bible School.
Leave to mourn a loving wife, Wynella and loving daughter, Laverne Knight-Laster (Jesse); brother, Auzzie Knight (Sharon), sister-in-law, Joyce Knight (Arnold T., deceased); adopted daughter Karen and adopted granddaughter Kathryn; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; a great friend, Dr. Barney, and supported neighbors, Joe and Maxine Jackson and Eric.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Ramer, Cemetery.
