Lee Tearl Howell was born April 30, 1922 at Cypress Creek, TN (Big Hill Pond); the son of John T. and Essie Howell. Lee departed this life on May 3, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was a member of Antioch Church of Christ where he served as an elder. In World War II, he served in the artillery unit in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, Battery B 136th Field Artillery, December 28, 1942 to December 24, 1945. He also served in the Korean Conflict on October 1950 to August 1951. He received Six Overseas Bronze Stars for participation in 6 major battles.
Mr. Howell was a construction worker; he worked for Worsham Brothers, Corinth, MS, McNairy County Hwy Dept. and self employed concrete work.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Virginia Stanfield; one daughter, Bonnie Johnson and husband H. C.; two sons, Roger Keith and wife Sara Teague, Randi Craig and wife Sheila Shelton; four sisters: Agnes Moore, Nola Whitby, Jeannette Mayfield and Johnnie Osborn; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Mr. Howell was preceded in death by four brothers: Culis, Billy, Kyle and Nile Howell; and granddaughter Christine Thomas.
