Wayne Sexton, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Atoka, Tennessee. Born on July 2, 1941, in Tiplersville, Mississippi, Wayne’s life was marked by integrity, dedication, and care for those around him.

Wayne spent over two decades working as a mechanic with the Hershey Candy Company in Memphis, a position that reflected both his technical skill and commitment to hard work. His admirable career provided him not just with livelihood, but also with lasting friendships and a deep sense of purpose. Before settling in Henderson, Tennessee, where he would reside for thirty years, Wayne made Memphis his home, building memories and bonds that would remain cornerstones of his life.

Wayne was a person of strong faith, a Baptist who lived his values quietly and steadfastly. Throughout his later years, he found joy and companionship at the Chester County Senior Center, remaining active within his community. Family and friends fondly recall his love for Memphis Wrestling, his restless spirit for travel, and his ever-present enthusiasm for spending time with loved ones. Wayne was always on the go, eager to make the most of every day, cherishing each moment with those closest to him.

Wayne leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in his family. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Christina Gann (Michael), Michelle Goodwin; his son, Gary Burlinson; his brother, Ricky Sexton; his sister, Marie; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great, great- grandchildren. The loss of his siblings, Bobbi Stowall, R.L. Sexton, Charline Beach, Kyle "Blackie" Sexton, Billy Joe Brown, and Lucie Mason; his father, Charlie Powell Sexton; his mother, Lee O. Leopard Sexton; his sons Freddie Sexton and Bill Manley; and the mother of his children, Hazel Cox Sexton, who have preceded him in death, is felt deeply by all who remember them.

Family and friends are invited to honor Wayne’s life and memory during visitation on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m., both at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar with Larry Blankenship officiating. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Indian Creek Cemetery in Covington, Tennessee.

Those who had the privilege to know Wayne Sexton will remember his unwavering work ethic, his humor, his laughter, and above all, his generous heart. His presence will be greatly missed, yet his legacy will live on in the stories and memories he created with his family and friends.
