Leighann Burkeens

On April 8, 2024, our hearts were saddened by the passing of Leighann Burkeens, a cherished soul born on February 3, 1977, in Red Bay, AL. She was the beloved daughter of Dorothy Gail Walker Latch and the late Hershel Vinson Brooks.

Leighann found her lifelong companion in James Burkeens, and on October 8, 1993, they knotted their lives together in marriage. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with love and memories.

Known for her warm and infectious smile, Leighann co-owned Shine 'Em Up Carwash and Video Store for several years. Her kindness and affection touched the hearts of everyone she met. She had a special fondness for her Mom's chocolate oatmeal cookies and chicken dressing.

Her interests were as diverse as her spirit. Leighann found joy in fishing, marveled at cars - particularly Corvettes, and found peace in the melody of music -she loved listening to music. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as "Mimi," a title that brought her immense happiness as she spent cherished moments with them.

Leighann leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, James Burkeens; her son, James Anthony Burkeens and his wife Haylee; daughter, Emily Alana Burkeens; six grandchildren: Payslee, Kane, Asher, Axton,  Addilee (on the way), and Wyatt; mother, Dorothy Latch and stepfather Mike; sister, Teresa Rorie and husband Tim; brother-in-law, Alan Burkeens; sister-in-law, Sissy Burkeens; along with nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.

In addition to her father, Mrs. Burkeens was preceded in death by brother, Jason Dewayne Brooks. 

Leighann's spirit will continue to shine brightly through the lives she touched with love and kindness.
