Lela Mae Meek

Lela Mae Young Meek was born September 14, 1926 in Madison County, TN the daughter of the late William Troy and Lela (Toker) Eutoker Hutcherson Young. She attended school in McNairy and Chester County and was married to J.B. Meek on May 7, 1944, he preceded her in death in 1990. Mrs. Meek worked at Salant & Salant for five years and later at Freed Hardeman College in Food Service and as a teacher's aide until 2007. Mrs. Meek was a member of the Sanford Hill Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years.

Mrs. Meek departed this life on October 23, 2016 in Henderson, Tennessee at the age of 90 Years, 1 Month, 9 Days.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Ada (Jerry) of Henderson, TN; a son, Gary Meek of Tiptonville, TN; and daughter in law Jeanette Meek of Henderson; two brothers, W.T. Young of Scottsdale, AZ, William Hayes Young of Dallas, TX; 6 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great-Grandchildren .

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Meek was preceded in death by a son, Danny Meek on July 30, 2011; two sisters, Loraine Weaver, Mary Meek (Young) Faught and a brother, Howard Young.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Shackelford Funeral Directors - Johnson Chapel with Roy Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Johnson Chapel on Tuesday, October 25, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
