LEON COX
Pinson, TN: Leon Cox, age 87, passed away Saturday morning, August 26, 2017 at his home.
He was born September 28, 1929 in the Woodville community of Chester County, the son of the late Robert Lee and Mattie Rhone King Cox. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Army during Korea and was stationed in Japan as a radio technician and meteorologist. He married Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Mays in 1954. He graduated from Union University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. They had made home at Five Points since 1962.
Mr. Cox worked as a chemical engineer at Consolidated Aluminum for thirty-eight years.
He was an active member of the Big Springs United Methodist Church and was a volunteer at Pinson Mounds. He loved gardening and was a devoted brother to his sisters; Bernese and Mavine.
Mr. Cox is survived by two daughters, Ramona Young and husband Barry of Jackson and Sarah Fowler of Paducah, KY, a grandson, Ryan Young and a sister, Bernese Cox of Woodville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jackie Cox, December 25, 1997, three sisters, Mavine Cox, Evora ‘Sister’ Howell and Evelyn Haynes and three brothers, Everett, John and Robert Cox.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Dr. Dennis Renshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Springs Cemetery in the Deanburg Community.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday.
