Leona Gertrude Avery Bowman, age 91, of Saulsbury, TN departed this life on March 6, 2017 in Henderson, Tennessee.
Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker, loved the outdoors, archeology, enjoyed arts & crafts, painting, raising a garden and canning. Over the years, Mrs. Bowman wore several different hats: she was the den leader in the Cub Scouts, pack 98 for several years, a waitress, store clerk, assembly worker making Army boats during World War II, and worked at airplane plant in California during the Korean Conflict.
She was born June 28, 1925 in Randolph County, Missouri to the late Virgil and Anna Avery. She was from a large family of five sisters and six brothers. Her faith growing up was Church of God then converted to Baptist after marrying Alfred Lee Bowman in June of 1948.
In 1957, they moved to Memphis and Al went to work as an accountant for Minor & Moore and E.E. Federal Compress Warehouse. In 1974, they along with their son moved to Hardeman County. Al had his own accounting business in Somerville and later in Grand Junction. As a family, they farmed and raised cattle.
Mrs. Bowman leaves to cherish her memory a son, Tracy Bowman of Bethel Springs, TN; grandson, Zach Bowman of Finger, TN; granddaughter, Lauren Bowman of Middleton, TN; a sister, Betty Lou Ferguson of Moberly, MO; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.
