Lester Ray Cummins, age 88, of Collinwood, TN, passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2026. He was born on May 14, 1937, to Lincoln and Ellen Blalock Cummins.
Lester spent many years working on the river and proudly served with the Army Corps of Engineers. Known for his entrepreneurial spirit, he owned and operated three businesses in his hometown of Collinwood, including the beloved Depot Drive-In, which remains a lasting part of the community today.
He was married to his best friend, Charlene Cummins. Though they later separated, they remained close until her passing in 1995. Lester showed his devotion by visiting her daily and offering steady support throughout her final days.
A man of quiet faith, Lester served God by helping others throughout his life, especially his daughter Tonya. He enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and spending time outdoors walking in nature. He found peace in simple moments—offering prayers under the stars while drifting down the rivers he loved so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and Ellen Blalock Cummins; his wife, Charlene Hensley Cummins; his son-in-law, Eliax Dwayne Potts; his grandson, Charlie Dwayne Potts; and his siblings: Carl Cummins (Iveta), Ruby Martin (Earl), Vada DeCapo, Mildred Burns (Durell), Obie Cummins (Elsie), Marshall Cummins (Peggy), Ruth Ellen May (Manuel), and James Andy Cummings (Jean).
Lester is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Tonya Lynn Potts (Dwayne); stepdaughters, Kimberly Charlene Smith and Debra Kay Turnbo (Bill); one sister, Linda Cummins (Wayne) and one brother David Cummins (Linda) and his cherished grandchildren, Eliax Blake Ray Potts, Kayla Lynn Potts, Wesley Daniel Turnbo, Shelby Cate Turnbo, and Matthew Douglas Smith (Rachel). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Lester will be remembered for his strength, his generous heart, and the brave way he lived his final days—always with a story, a smile, and just enough humor to keep everyone on their toes, even when they weren’t expecting it.
