Obituary

Linda Dixe Banks, 79, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026. She was born on April 16, 1947, the daughter of the late Emmett Dixe and Evelyn Garappiey Dixe.

Linda was a lifelong lover of life and found joy in the simple things that made memories last. She attended Ramer High School, where she was a cheerleader and proudly represented her school on the Homecoming Court. She carried that same spirited and outgoing personality throughout her life.

Linda had a deep love for the water and treasured time spent at the beach, swimming, boating, and enjoying the beauty of the ocean. She was also an avid Tennessee football fan and loved cheering on the Vols. At home, she found happiness in decorating and painting, and Easter and Christmas were especially special to her. She had a gift for making things beautiful and creating a warm and welcoming place for those she loved.

Linda’s heart for others was evident in the many ways she gave of her time. She volunteered with the Carl Perkins Child Abuse Center, Jesus Cares, and the Red Cross. She also served as president of the McNairy County Animal Shelter, reflecting her deep compassion for animals and her desire to make a difference in her community.

Linda’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She leaves behind her son, Michael Lee Horton and wife, Brandi, of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; daughters, Michelle Horton Allen of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Melissa Suzanne Horton of Selmer, Tennessee; sister, Lisa Walls and husband, Wayne, of Pocahontas, Tennessee; grandchildren: Brayden Horton and wife, Amber, Jack Allen, and Cooper Allen; and great-grandchildren, Rhett Horton and Ryder Horton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett Dixe, Sr. and Evelyn Garappiey Dixe; sister, Kathleen Foster; and brothers, Armand Dixe and Emmett Dixe, Jr.

Linda will be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit, creativity, and the many lives she touched through her kindness and service. Her love for her family, her community, animals, and the things that brought her joy will remain a cherished part of her legacy. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be held close by those who loved her.

Pallbearers will be Cooper Allen, Jack Allen, Blake Walls, Wayne Walls, and Brayden Horton.
