Lloyd R. Dodd went to be with his lord Jesus on Monday, May 10, 2010 at the age of 88. He was born in Hardeman County, Tennessee on September 21, 1921 and moved to Deanburg in Chester County at an early age. The son of Bryant E. and Lucy Ester Cleek Dodd, he attended school at Deanburg. Mr. Dodd served in the CCC Camp in Bend, Oregon before entering the US Army in November, 1942. Arriving in North Africa on Christmas Day, 1943, he served with the 103rd Infantry and later with the 88th Infantry as a point man. En route to Rome, Italy on May 24, 1944, Mr. Dodd was injured by a German grenade and remained hospitalized for six months, receiving a Purple Heart.
Upon returning to Deanburg, he married Tommie L. Hubanks in 1946. As a lifetime farmer, he raised cotton, corn and hogs. Briefly he worked at Western Mental Health Institute and Chickasaw State Park retiring in 1986. For 49 years, he served as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Dodd was also a member of the Deanburg Community Club and Disabled American Veterans.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Dodd; brother, Paul Dodd; and sisters, Frances Dodd and Versie Cope.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Tommie L. Dodd; son, Danny (Beverly) of Jackson; grandchildren, Shawn Dodd of Nashville and Kara Dodd of Jackson; brothers, James Dodd of Ohio and Emmett Dodd of Jackson.
