Lola Hilliard

February 8, 1932 — August 8, 2012

Mrs. Hilliard was born and reared in Dyer County, at Newbern, the daughter of the late Clarence Odell and Rosa Mai Willis Carter. She graduated from Newbern High School in 1949.

She married Jack Hilliard in 1951 and the made their home for sixteen years in Southeast Missouri where Mr. Hilliard preached for the churches of Christ. They did mission work in Bermuda and the Appalachian Mountains in Jellico, TN. They lived at Sitka, TN before moving to Henderson in 1975 to begin work for Freed-Hardeman University. She worked in the registrar’s office and later in placement and development, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ and the Freed-Hardeman Associates.



She is survived by her husband Jack Hilliard of Henderson; two sons Deryl Hilliard and wife Vicki of Henderson and Mark Hilliard and wife Rosemary of Franklin and a daughter, Deidra Beene of Henderson. She has four grandchildren, Alex Beene, Rachel Connor, Jessa Sexton and Mark-Aaron Hilliard and six great grandchildren, Jonas Sexton, Jack Sexton, Charlie Hilliard, Isaac Hilliard, Camryn Connor and Travis Connor. She also is survived by two brothers, Larry Carter of Newbern and Gene Carter of Dyersburg and two sisters, Arlene Lockhart of Tyler, TX and Sheila Viar of Newbern. She was preceded in death by a brother, Virgal Carter.
