Mr. Louis M. Wellons, Jr. of Bolivar departed this life at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 8 days Sunday night, July 28, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Hickory Valley March 20, 1935 to the late Louis Monroe Wellons, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Pruette Wellons. A 1953 graduate of Grand Junction High School, he was a member of the Naval Reserve and attended Memphis College, now known as the University of Memphis, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. On November 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ann Vaughan Wellons and moved to Bolivar, where he lived for the rest of his life. He worked as the owner/operator of Vaughan Hardware for 30 years, retiring in 2000. His wife preceded him in death July 26, 2006.
Mr. Wellons was very involved in the community. He was a longtime City Councilman, County Coroner, a member of the Bolivar Rotary Club and the Hardeman County Arts Council, and worshipped at the First United Methodist Church in Bolivar. He also enjoyed breeding, judging and showing bull terriers and was a past president of the Bull Terrier Club of America.
He leaves as his survivors his special friend and longtime companion, Belinda Moss of Bolivar; two sons, Mike Wellons of Bolivar and Paul Wellons of San Francisco, California; two sisters, Mary W. Powell of Hickory Valley and Roberta Parker of Somerville; and two grandchildren, Ian Wellons and wife Amanda of Bolivar and Rachel Wellons of Bolivar.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Chad Wellons.
