Lucille (Lou) Tacker Jones was born February 28, 1929 in Bethel Springs, TN the daughter of the late David Amos and Alpha Beatty Tacker.
She was united in marriage to Wendell Keith Jones on November 11, 1966. Mr. Jones preceded her in death on June 14, 1988, following 21 years of marriage.
When Lou was 8 years old her parents died only months apart. She, along with her sister Mary Sue and brother Grady, were raised by their father's distant cousin, Otis Plunk. She grew up on the Plunk family farm in Bethel Springs and learned the value of hard work at an early age. Lou graduated from Bethel Springs High School, where she was elected Class Reporter. After graduation she moved to Memphis and worked as a telephone operator for Bellsouth. She later attended cosmetology school and became a licensed cosmetologist and beautician. She practiced for approximately 20 years, working for others and also operating her own beauty salon named after her daughter Jacque. She and her husband Keith traveled extensively and lived in various locations throughout the world during his military career with the United States Air Force. Lou was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and supported many charities such as Wounded Warriors, Shriners, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. She had a sympathetic heart and was easily moved to help those in need, whether human or animal. Crocheting, reading (she was a meticulous record keeper and owned a house full of books), listening to gospel music (especially the Gaithers), and visiting people (accompanied by her home-made soup and cornbread) were among her favorite activities. Lou was a faithful member of the Selmer First Baptist Church for many years.
Lou departed this life on June 6, 2023 in Collierville, Tennessee at the age of 94 Years, 3 Months, 9 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Jacque (Jones) Lawler and husband William of Oakland, TN; a grandchild, Sarah (Lawler) Clark and husband Josh of Oakland, TN; a godson, Timothy Steumeyer of Colorado; many loved nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lou was preceded in death by a son, Phillip James Hollingsworth; two sisters, Mary Sue Hendrix and Vonnie Dallas; and a brother, Grady Tacker.
Memorials may be made to Hope House for Women, in care of Fayette Baptist Church.
