Mrs. Pierce passed away Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The widow of William Barney Pierce, Jr. who died on July 13, 1995 after 48 years of marriage, she was a retired machine operator at Levi Strauss and had also worked at Master Trouser and Kilgore. She was born November 11, 1927, in Bolivar, daughter of the late William McKinley Sanders and Mary Myrtle Cox Sanders and had lived her whole life in the Hornsby area. She loved gardening and canning the produce she grew, needlepointing and cooking. Her greatest joy came from being around her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The light of her life was her great grandson, William Bryce Pierce. She was a faithful member of Hatchie Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School worker.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Pierce of Hornsby; two sisters, Vernell Wacker of Hornsby and Eloise Poole of Toone; two grandsons, Jimmy Lynn Pierce, II (Jennifer) of Bolivar and David Pierce of Middleton; a great grandchild, William Bryce Pierce; step grandchild, Angela Compton of Bolivar; and four step great grandchildren, Spencer Bishop, Evan, Kyli and Charlie Sherman, all of Bolivar. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Lynn Pierce in 2010 and two brothers, Billy Joe Sanders and Curtis Sanders. The family requests memorial donations in Mrs. Pierce's name be made to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center or Hatchie Baptist Church.
