Sister Lucille Vandiver

Sister Lucille Vandiver passed away on Thursday evening, February 9, 2023, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The daughter of the late James Walter and Ophie Ethel Hooper Rhodes, she lived most all of her life in Hardeman and Madison Counties. She married her husband, Brother Cordes P. Vandiver on November 20, 1945. At the time of his passing on September 24, 2008, they had been married 62 years.

Like her husband, she was minister for the Pinson Church of God where she was active in mission work to India, the Virgin Islands and Haiti. She also was a writer of gospel songs. As a homemaker, she loved to grow a large garden every year.

She leaves a son, Jerry (Shawn) Vandiver of Jackson; a sister, Margie Bryant of Jackson; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Vandiver (d. March 12, 2012); and four brothers and sisters.
