Lucy Ann Jones Burgess of Savannah, Tennessee went to meet the Lord on Christmas Day 2015 at her home. Lucy was born on October 10, 1961 in Madison County to Lewis Jones and Loy McAdams Jones of Jack’s Creek, Tennessee. She attended Chester County High School, Freed-Hardeman University, and later earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Memphis. The majority of her professional life was spent teaching in Hardin County schools where she touched the lives of many young students.
On February 28, 1987 Lucy was joined in marriage to David C. Burgess of Savannah, TN. She was a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary of Savannah. She worshipped and served others with the Savannah Church of Christ. She was a lover of all kinds of music, as well as talented musician and singer. In the Savannah area, she was a favored performer at community events and fundraisers. She also loved to travel and explore new places with her family.
She is survived by her husband, David Burgess, a son, Elliott Burgess, stepsons, Jason and James Burgess, daughters-in-law, Gretchen and Melissa Burgess, five grandchildren, Andrew Moody, Jacob Burgess, Lily Grace Ludlam, Collin Burgess, and Annabeth Burgess and sister, Jennie Jones Fletcher. Her parents, Lewis and Loy Jones, preceded her in death.
Her family plans to honor Lucy by establishing a scholarship fund in her name. In lieu of flowers, donations to this fund will be accepted as a memorial to her life. All who knew her will remember Lucy for her positive attitude, passion for life, and unshakable faith.
