Mabel Lax

Mrs. Lax died Saturday morning, June 27, 2009, at Pine Meadows Healthcare in Bolivar.



A native of Hickory Valley, she had lived in Bolivar since 1953. She was the daughter of the late James Arron and Mary Elizabeth Williams Martin. On Valentine's Day, 1934, she married Woodrow W. Lax. Mr. Lax died December 20, 1998. She was a member of the Bolivar First Baptist Church where she was active in the Golden Sounds Choir. She also held membership in the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at both Pine Meadows Healthcare and Western Mental Health Institute. Mrs. Lax worked at several stores in Bolivar through the years, most notably Hudson Drug and Ben Franklin. At one time, she was Assistant Postmaster of Hickory Valley.



She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Hodge of Olive Branch, MS; two sisters, Virginia Anderson of Memphis and Jean Bishop of Hickory Valley; a brother, Joe Martin of Hickory Valley; a grandson and his wife, Gerald and Jennifer Hodge; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Zachary Hodge.



She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ferguson; and a brother, J. B. Martin.
