Magdalene "Maggie" Harris, a beloved soul who touched the lives of many, was born on December 17, 1933, in McNairy County, TN. She was the daughter of the late Millard Melton and Evelyn Christopher Melton. On May 17, 1991, she united in marriage with Frank Jasper Harris, sharing a beautiful life together until his passing on May 12, 2014.

Maggie dedicated herself to her community. She was elected and served as a McNairy County Commissioner for 13 years; during which time the Commission was instrumental in the construction of the Jack McConnico Library and Selmer Middle School. Her career also included a role in the McNairy County Tax Assessor's office and she retired from Locke Brother Supply Company, leaving a legacy of dedication and hard work.

Known for her culinary skills, Maggie was a wonderful cook, particularly famous for her chicken and dumplings and chicken and dressing. A passionate gardener, she had a magical touch that enabled her to nurture any kind of plant or flower. Her home was always a warm and inviting space, where friends and neighbors were met with open arms, a steaming cup of coffee, and a slice of her delicious cake or pie.

As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maggie’s love for her family was boundless and will forever endure in their hearts.

Maggie departed this life on July 15, 2025, in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 28 days. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives she has touched.
