Maggie Emily Kernodle May was born on September 5, 1918, in Bethel Springs, TN, to the late Albine and Myrtle Robinson Kernodle. Mrs. May passed from this life on Friday, November 27, 2009, in Selmer, TN, at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 22 days. She was united in marriage to James Carthell May on January 31, 1942. Mr. May preceded her in death on January 16, 1994. She was a member of New Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. May was retired from the Tennessee Agriculture Extension Service and had also worked as a sales clerk at the former Browder's Clothing Store in Selmer.Survivors are her daughter, Judy Sweatt and husband Jerry of Selmer; a son, Jim May and wife Jacque of Candler, NC; two granddaughters, Ann Sweatt Burks and husband Phillip and Elizabeth Hamm May; two great-grandsons, Anthony Lambert and Brandon Lambert; three sisters: Alice Chandler of Memphis, Martha Nell Crowe of Bethel Springs, and Maeola Whitten of Selmer; and a host of other relatives and friends.Other than her parents and husband, Mrs. May was also preceded in death by siblings Betty Sue Johnson, Minnie Lee Baucum, John David Kernodle, Daphine Dowty Gilbert, and Loreda Tull.
