Mala Payne Lax

Mrs. Lax passed away early Saturday morning at Baptist Hospital - DeSoto in Southaven, MS.
A native of Memphis, she was the daughter of the late John Huckeby and Mala Shackelford Payne. She was the widow of Mr. Vernon McCoy Lax, Sr., whom she married August 13, 1954. He died December 11, 1990. She lived most of her life in Memphis where she retired after 45 years with AT&T. Mrs. Lax moved to Coldwater, MS 15 years ago.
She leaves a son, Vernon McCoy "Bubba" Lax, Jr. of Counce, TN; a sister, Terrell Payne of Jackson, MS; and a grandson, William Harley Nichols.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Lax Likens.
