Margie O. Maxwell

Mrs. Margie Ola Sykes Maxwell, passed from this life at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation on Friday evening, November 20 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 10 days.

Born in Bolivar, Tennessee, December 10, 1926 to Mr. John Thomas and Mrs. Tullie Ola Duncan Sykes, Mrs. Maxwell lived most of her life in Hardeman County. She was married to the late Newton Lee Maxwell on January 4, 1947 and together they had three children who survive, Dianna Maxwell Moore and her husband Mike, Dickie Maxwell and his wife Diane and Kent Maxwell and his wife Lisa all of Middleton. She was a production worker for more than 26 years at Dover Elevator and was a homemaker. A lifelong member of Hebron Baptist Church, she worked diligently as a Bible school teacher, VBS director, choir member and also served as treasurer, clerk and occasional pianist. She loved to work with flowers, enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, working crossword puzzles and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her children she is survived by 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Cox (Ricky), Andrea Howell (David), Kim Edgin (Joe), Kasey Lax (Ryan), Pamela Hunter (Jason), Jessica Grantham (Steven), and Chris Maxwell (Lindsay); 11 great grandchildren, Jecamyn and Cassidy Cox, Anna Kate and Gracie Howell, Kolby and Shelby Lax, Carter Edgin, Haleigh and Hudson Grantham, Taylor and Landon Maxwell; a sister, Sue Russell of Bolivar; and 4 brothers, Joe Sykes of York, PA, Bob Sykes (Claudine) of Athens, TN, Howard Sykes of Atlanta and Gerald Sykes (JoAnn) of Bolivar. Those who preceded her in death include her parents, husband, 3 sisters, Mary Howell, Eugenia Bryant, and Annie Ruth Baker; and 3 brothers, Thomas, Ed, and Bill Sykes.
