Margie Elizabeth Ervin Schultz passed from this life on September 9, 2026 at her home of 53 years in Hickory Valley, Tennessee. She was born on May 22, 1938 in Hardeman County. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Henry Ervin and Iva Grantham Ervin and was predeceased by her siblings Marvin (Mary) Ervin, Marlene (Bobby) DeBerry and Margaret Smith and by her husband of 48 years Niels Erik Schultz. They were married on June 14, 1959. She is survived by her four children Mimi (Raymond) Hurd of Lebanon, Tennessee, Karen Schultz (Suzie Reed) of Louisville, Tennessee, Gretchen (Jamie) Julius of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Arthur (Tonya) Schultz of Hickory Valley, Tennessee. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Olivia (Max) Kerr, Sam (Ellen) Hurd, Anders Julius, Chandler Schultz and Paige (Billy) Herman, brother-in-law James Smith and by one great grandchild George Hurd. 

Mrs. Schultz attended the Ebenezer School in the Silerton community where she completed two grades in one year. She graduated from Bolivar Central High School and was a secretary and switchboard operator at the Bolivar Tannery prior to her marriage. 

Mrs. Schultz was an advocate for education and was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s education, especially at Hardeman Academy in Hickory Valley and Fayette Academy in Somerville where all four children graduated. She was a skilled seamstress, cook (especially known for homemade divinity) and gardener, but she was best known for her basket weaving. She taught many family members, community members and school children to make their first basket and demonstrated her craft at festivals. 

A faithful Episcopalian, she attended and served at both St. James Church in Bolivar and Immanuel Church in LaGrange and served as a delegate to the convention of the Episcopal Diocese of West Tennessee. Always looking for ways to benefit her community, she was a longtime election official, president of the Hickory Valley Women’s Club and a volunteer hostess at the National Field Trials. She also worked diligently to establish a Tennessee state historical marker for the Hickory Valley Sassafras Mill. 

Together with her husband N. E. Schultz, she visited 49 states, Canada and Mexico and enjoyed a 40th anniversary trip, traveling overland to Alaska via the Alaska Highway. In later years she enjoyed annual trips with her children, including a special trip to Denmark. 

The family wishes to thank Beacon Hospice for the excellent care provided in her last months by Katie, Alicia and Melanie. Family and friends are invited to the Schultz home at 6625 Hwy 18 South, Hickory Valley for a Celebration of her Life on September 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
