Marie Tibbs Mitchell

 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Marie Mitchell on March 1, 2024.   Marie was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on January 19, 1930 to the late George Franklin Tibbs and Ora Mae Bryan Tibbs.  She lived there until she graduated grammar school when she moved to Tennessee with her dad. 

She married the late James Foster Mitchell on August 27, 1949 and they have three children:   Jimmy (Karen) Mitchell, Sandra (Anthony Lynn) Goodwin, and Eva Marie Mitchell.  She is also survived by her grandchildren:  Stacy (Lesley) Goodwin, James Ray Mitchell, Stephen (Kimberly) Goodwin and James (Lee Ann) Hancock and by four great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her seven brothers and three sisters.

Marie loved the Lord and was an active member of Enville Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as a children’s teacher, and as an adult teacher until ill health prevented her from attending church.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, March 4, 2024 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson's Crook Avenue Chapel with burial to follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue Chapel on Monday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM service time.
