Marion T. White

April 28, 1920 — August 8, 2017

Marion Thompson White, age 97 of Bolivar, Tennessee went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. She had been living at the Regency Retirement Village in Jackson since December of last year.

Marion was born on April 28, 1920 in Milan, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Joseph Munsey Thompson and Sue Adcock Thompson. A graduate of the class of 1938 at Milan High School, Marion, along with her sister Leatrice, played on the powerful Milan Girls Basketball Teams of the late thirties under Coach Mary Dell Collins.

Marion would eventually move to Memphis, where she worked in banking during the early forties. On May 4, 1943, she married Lt. Mac Pirtle White of Bolivar, TN. They were then stationed with an antiaircraft unit in southern California until the danger of an attack on the US West Coast subsided. Lt. White was then assigned to an infantry unit and was shipped to France in December, 1944. It was there that he lost part of his right leg in the war and would wear an artificial leg the remainder of his life until his death in 1968. Marion was a strong supporter of our Vets and a lifelong member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary.

Mac and Marion, along with their two children, moved to Bolivar in 1952, and Marion loved Bolivar as her hometown until she had to relocate in 2010 to the Bells Retirement Center in Bells, TN due to her health. During her years in Bolivar, she worked at various places: Hardeman County Co-op, City of Bolivar, Anne Frost Accounting, Belle Boutique, Hardeman County Chamber of Commerce, and Walmart. Marion was a very faithful member of the Bolivar Cumberland Presbyterian Church during her years in Bolivar. She also enjoyed giving Gideon Bibles as memorial gifts. A woman of prayer, she loved her Lord and loved people.

Marion is survived in this earthly life by one daughter, Suzanne Davis Smith (Larry) of Alamo, TN; one son, Rev. Blake White (Lynn) of Jackson, TN; four grandchildren, Rebecca Davis Gahring (John), Robert 'Bo' White II (Shae), Leah White Shanks (Grant) and Andrew Ellis White (Kristina); and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Leatrice Thompson Meucci; and a brother, Billy Joe Thompson.

Memorials can be sent to the Bolivar Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 413, Bolivar, TN 38008; or the Gideons International.
