Marshall Smith

June 3, 1943 — December 29, 2014

Mr. Smith passed from this life, Monday morning, December 29, 2014, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was 71 years old.

Mr. Smith was born in Memphis, the son of the late Earl Marion Smith, Sr. and Willie Lois Eastham Smith. He lived most all of his life in the Grand Junction community and received his Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. From 1974 - 2004, he worked as an agronomist for the Ames Plantation. Following his retirement there, he served in the Peace Corps in Micronesia on the island of Pohnpei. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed raising a variety of fruits and vegetables, giving many away to family, friends and those in need. A long-time member of the Grand Junction First Baptist Church, he served the church as assistant treasurer, Sunday School teacher and Secretary of the Sunday School department.

He leaves three sisters, Barbara Sweeney and Emily Smith, both of Grand Junction; and Dianne Hanna, and her husband, Roy, of Murfreesboro; one brother, Earl Smith and his wife, Judy, of Grand Junction; two nieces, Loura Williams and her husband, Kyle, and Sallie Allen; three nephews, Adrian Smith, Justin Smith and his wife, Kim; and Raymond Hanna and his wife, Jennifer; one great-niece, Hanna Allen; and four great-nephews, Camden and Ben Williams, Gavin Hanna and Waverly Smith.
