MARTHA GREENE NEWSOM
Henderson, TN: Martha Geneva Greene Newsom age 86, passed away Monday afternoon at the Henderson Healthcare.
She was born February 18, 1930 in Chester County near Henderson, the daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Jewell Lafayette Cherry Greene. She attended schools in Chester County and in 1946 she married Carroll Newsom. They made their home in Chester County all their married life, most recently in Henderson on Mifflin Extd. She worked at Chester County Nursing Home from 1972 till 1974. Mrs. Newsom was a homemaker and caregiver and a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Finger, where she loved to sing.
Mrs. Newsom is survived by a daughter, Dianne Connor and husband Lynn of Beech Bluff and three sons, Jim Newsom and wife Sue of Pinson, Willie Newsom and wife Frances of Henderson and Danny Newsom and wife Debbie of Pinson; twelve grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother Raymond Greene of Jacks Creek, and four sisters; Dorothy Patterson of Finger, Mildred Smith of Henderson, Louise Bennett of Thomaston, GA and Darlene Reese of Nashville, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Carroll Newsom in 2002, a daughter, Carolyn Marie Newsom in 1953, a brother Tommy Greene in 1980 and a sister Billie Jean Carter in 1996.
Funeral services will be 2:00 Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Bobby Bray officiating. Burial will follow at Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 5:00 PM Tuesday.
