Selmer

Mary Ann Hicks Hamm, age 86, of Selmer, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, in Selmer. Born on October 17, 1939, in Selmer, she was the daughter of the late Albert Hicks and Alice Lee Ray and spent her life deeply rooted in the community she loved.

On August 19, 1960, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Billy Frank Hamm. A devoted and dedicated wife, she shared more than six decades of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment with her husband. Their marriage stood as a testament to loyalty and devotion. Mr. Hamm preceded her in death on December 2, 2021.

Mary Ann lived a life of service, both professionally and personally. She retired after 22 years of dedicated service as the Mayor’s Secretary at Selmer City Hall and also worked for 15 years at Pickwick Electric. A proud graduate of Selmer High School, she carried a strong work ethic and deep pride in her hometown throughout her life, faithfully serving the people around her with quiet diligence.

A member of Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mary Ann was known for her gracious spirit and extravagant hospitality. She took great joy in hosting others and found true happiness in caring for those she loved. She was especially known for her banana pudding, a favorite requested by everyone, especially family and grandkids. When she welcomed guests into her home, she made a point to prepare each person’s favorite dishes, ensuring that everyone felt special, comfortable, and truly at home.

In her quieter moments, Mary Ann found peace in tending her garden, watching the cardinals and hummingbirds that visited her front yard, and enjoying the simple beauty of nature. She especially treasured time spent camping with her husband at Big River Plantation in Savannah, where many cherished memories were made together. Her home reflected her heart—filled with warmth, laughter, and intentional love.

Above all else, Mary Ann’s greatest joy was her family. She deeply loved her son and grandchildren, and they remained the center of her world throughout her life.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a son, Craig Hamm and wife Willette Ramel of Kingston, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Lucas Drake Hamm and wife Emily Kay of Selmer, Tennessee, and Karrah Nicole Hamm of Adamsville, Tennessee; one great-grandchild, Brysen Drake Hamm; a sister, Francis Erleen Basham of Winchester, Tennessee; and nephews, David Basham and wife Vicki of Tullahoma, Tennessee, along with their daughter, Carolina; Darryl Basham and wife Tammy of Winchester, Tennessee, along with their daughters, Bailey and Callie; and Mike Basham and wife Donna of Tullahoma, Tennessee, along with their daughters, Whitney and Dawn, and granddaughters, Riley, Kyra, and Braxton.

Mary Ann Hamm will be remembered for her faithful devotion as a wife, her deep love for family, her generous and thoughtful hospitality, and the quiet grace and beauty she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
