MARY ELLEN "MAW" AUSTIN
was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on June 28, 1935 the daughter of the late Lester and Lettie Benson Austin.
On August 14, 1953 she was united in marriage to Buster Alexander Austin, who preceded his wife in death on November 18, 1992.
Mary had worked for Angelica Manufacturing Company as a machine operator. She attended Bumpus Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Mary was a baby-sitter for many children, everyone knew her as "Maw". She was a volunteer at Walnut Grove Fish Fry and attended Walnut Grove Senior Citizens. Mary loved going to the beach, mountains, gospel singings and to see George Jones in concert. In her spare time she would be sewing, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. Spending time with her grandchildren and family was her greatest joy and she loved cooking chicken and dumplings for them every Wednesday.
She departed this life on Friday, June 5, 2020 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 8 days.
Mary is survived by her children, David Terry Austin of Savannah, Tennessee and Sherry Lynn Austin Qualls and her husband Keith (who was Mary's favorite son-in-law) of Michie, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Pam Austin of New Albany, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jason Alexander Fox, Jamie Nicole Austin Richardson and her husband Jeremy, and Brittney Nicole Fox Williams; great grandchildren, Jason Welsh, Gracie Williams, Kailer Richardson, Olivia Daniel, and Sadie Daniel; and sister, Margie Benson of Savannah, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Carroll Austin, one grandchild, Terrie Faith Austin, four sisters, Edna Austin, Rubene Sweat, Aleta Shelby, and Dolly Austin and one brother, J. B. Austin.
