Mary Alice Berry Ayers of Waynesboro was born in Missouri, the daughter of the late Harvey Clarence Berry and Maudie Miller Berry Dicus. Mary departed this life Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee. Mary was presently retired, however earlier in life she had worked at Genesco, Lincoln Brass, and Tennessee River Manufacturing. She was a member of Ray's Chapel Baptist Church. Mary was married to Deward Ayers April 9, 1976 who survives of Waynesboro. Other survivors are stepdaughters, Wanda Pierce and the late Douglas, Mary Ann Lee and husband George, and Tammie Knight, a sister, Clonell White, special nieces and nephews, Angie Williams, Carla Staggs and husband Brian, Nicole Smith and her husband Ron, J.P. Dicus and Austin Staggs, several other half nieces and half nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her stepmother, Minnie F. Berry and stepfather, Huey Dicus, brothers, Clarence and Freddie Berry, halfbrothers, James Rufus Berry, Vada Bell Berry, Walker C. Berry, James Allen Berry, and Jess Dicus, halfsisters, Virgie Myrtle Berry, Rubye Evelyn Berry, Olgie Bernice Berry, Eluie C. Berry, Cora C. Berry, and a deceased niece, Monica Brewer.
Services will be Monday, September 21, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Collinwood, Tennessee with George Lee and Richard Raines officiating. Burial will follow in Collinwood Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors directing. Visitation will begin Sunday, September 20th from 6:00-9:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
