Mary Louise Bates

Mary Louise Brotherton Bates, 93, of Cordova, TN passed from this life Wednesday morning February 13, 2013 following a brief illness.
Born February 3, 1920 in Saulsbury, TN to Thomas Huey and Mary Ida Brotherton, she lived in Saulsbury until she moved to Memphis in the 1940s to work for Fisher Aircraft Co. riveting airplane wings during WWII. On November 4, 1951, she married Frank Eugene Bates who passed on February 19, 1972. She worked for Orgill Brothers in Memphis from 1950 to 1983 as a file clerk. She continued working until she was 90 years of age in childcare at Bellevue Baptist Church where she was a member for 65 years. Children for generations called her "Miss Mary." It was her passion to work with children and tell them about Jesus, and she loved to spend time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a sister Lura Goddard, and three brothers Edward, Herbert, and Howard Brotherton. Survivors include her daughter Nancy Pearson and husband William of Cordova, TN; 5 grandchildren William F. Pearson III, and wife Holly, Ashley Pearson Janovich and husband William, Brian Pearson, Steven Pearson, and Mary Elena Pearson; and 6 great-grandchildren, Maylen, Adeline, Pearson Janovich, and Jayden, Evangeline, and Silas Pearson.
